More Careful Erosion of Family Values
by The Banter-er on October 28
The battle for the sustainment of the traditional family is constantly under siege. Since the beginning of time, society has practiced the age-old concept of one man and one woman making a lifelong commitment, rearing children within the bounds of matrimony, and fighting like mad to keep it all together. In our society today, we have fought very open and public battles to keep the traditional definition of marriage alive. Exactly a year ago there was national attention paid to Proposition 8... Eternal Reaganism
by The Banter-er on
Today is the 45th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s “A Time for Choosing” speech. Much has been said today about the eloquence uttered by the conservative leader…and rightly so. I know it will never happen, but this short speech could fill an entire semester of a high school civics class – and the country would be better for it. The past few years have seen a number of elitist Republican leaders claim that the era of Reagan is over – that the movement he lead is... Read more...
I hate new hate crime legislation
by The Banter-er on
I seem to remember a famous guy who once publicly shared his dream with America. It went something like “I have a dream that someday my children will be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” That profound statement is filled with logic and should be ingrained in very fabric of every human being. Biases and prejudices are developed by environmental influences. If a kid’s parents continually tell him that blacks are inferior, he’s... Read more...
Obama: I’ll back you up to the hilt
by The Banter-er on
That is – of course – unless the “hilt” demands 40,000 additional troops. This president’s disdain for military operations in Afghanistan are all too transparent. You can read parts of his speech at the Naval Air Station in Florida here. I know all too well what it’s like working for an inept manager, but I can only imagine how military men and women must feel having to serve under a commander in chief who has no intention of winning the war in which they fighting. My... Read more...
Patrick Kennedy Communes with Humility
by The Banter-er on
A point of great sadness and frustration for me is the misuse of religious principles to justify a liberal’s point of view. In each case the perpetrators are either willingly blaspheming or grossly misunderstand the theology they supposedly espouse. An annoyingly ignorant bumper sticker I saw recently read: “I’ll pay higher taxes to give unto ‘the least of these’” (Matt. 25:40). Seriously? You think this teaching of Jesus directed his disciples to lobby Caesar... Read more...
Why?
by The Banter-er on October 26
Why Everyday Banter? My wife lives in a bubble. She works hard as a stay-at-home mom caring for our two children, and often doesn’t have the time to see the world outside our modest home. If it doesn’t happen on Barney, Inside Edition or Bold and the Beautiful, it doesn’t happen in her life. When I return from work each day, I am eager to engage her in a riveting conversation about the days’ events. I am increasingly frustrated with her ignorance of the goings on... Read more...
Its all in the Hips
by The Banter-er on
Who has a better fighting chance against Bob Barker: Barack Obama or George W. Bush? Maybe it doesn’t matter, but Obama is most likely in better form on the links than the newly retired Bush. Presidential schedule trackers have discovered that Obama has been golfing as much in 9 months as Bush did in 2 years and 10 months. Not a really big deal, but what is interesting is media attention (or lack thereof) of such a trivial fact. The much maligned Bush was ransacked by the press about golfing... Read more...
Obama Immune to H1N1 Vaccine Shortage Blame
by The Banter-er on October 25
Does the current shortage of H1N1 vaccinations prove that President Obama doesn’t care about people dying of swine flu? Does it mean he can’t protect the health of the American people? If it did, the press wouldn’t tell you. I can’t freaking believe it. First, let me point out that I don’t blame the Obama administration for the shortage. The fact that a vaccine even exists after such a short time is a testament to the strong, capitalism-minded pharmaceutical... Read more...
Snow One Cares
by The Banter-er on October 23
There I was, staring directly into the face of the adversary. I knew exactly where I needed to go and he wanted nothing more than to make sure I didn’t get there. I had two choices: sit and wait while the gathering forces buried me deeper, or courageously press forward into my obstacle laden path in hopes of reaching my intended destination. Before my eyes lay an array of bumps and blockades that would make even the most experienced of missionaries shudder, but I couldn’t shrink under the... Read more...
