SCOTUS Ruling: Right on the Money

by The Banter-er on January 22, 2010

Despite being characterized as an judicial activist ruling by angry liberals, yesterday’s ruling from the Supreme Court granting corporations the right to get involved in elections is spot on.

I’ll use the omniscient Wikipedia to prove my point…from their page on Corporations:

Despite not being natural persons, corporations are recognized by the law to have rights and responsibilities like actual people. Corporations can exercise human rights against real individuals and the state,[2] and they may be responsible for human rights violations.[3] Just as they are “born” into existence through its members obtaining a certificate of incorporation, they can “die” when they lose money into insolvency. Corporations can even be convicted of criminal offences, such as fraud andmanslaughter.[4]

If corporations are treated by the law as actual people, it only stands to reason that they have the same 1st amendment rights that individual Americans enjoy.  To think otherwise is to linger in hypocrisy, and proves an unfettered hatred for the very corporations that make America great.

It’s funny how everyone pissing and moaning about this ruling have leveraged the opportunities afforded them by corporations to whine about how evil corporations are.  As they state their case against big business, they turn a blind eye to the car, building, camera, makeup, producer, cell phone, computer, clothing, food, etc. that was brought to them by their friendly neighborhood corporation.

If it wasn’t for corporations, we wouldn’t even know who these idiots are.
