Hope Index – 2/8

by The Banter-er on February 8, 2010

Bring on the debt!

A week after a State of the Union address and several other speeches where he renounced deficits and called the country on it’s reckless spending habits, Obama released his new budget that grows the deficit to record levels.  Hope with absolutely no change – just a whole lot of IOU’s that will come due decades after Obama has done his work.  It is clear that Obama intends to freeze spending at historically high levels.

Scott Brown is now in D.C. (which proves, as an NRO Corner reader pointed out, Hell has now officially frozen over), and the Democrats actually chose to seat him in time for some important votes.

The Saints won the Super Bowl, proving once and for all that despite George W. Bush’s disdain for New Orleans, the city has recovered from Hurricane Katrina.  Can we finally move on?

As of 8 February 2010 the United States is
trading freedom for financing

HOW WE GOT HERE:

White House Policy

Budget – Obama released his ridiculously large budget this week, a $3.83 trillion plan that borrows a record $1.56 trillon.  Think about that for a second.  What would your financial state be if you borrowed 40% of every dollar you spent with absolutely no prospect for paying it back in the near future?  40%!  This budget is reckless, unnecessary, and is a blatant assault on American freedom.

If you’ve ever been in serious debt (or even just a little debt), you have a keen understanding of how free you aren’t when you owe someone else money.  The handcuffs of debt limit options and cause untold amounts of stress and anxiety.  Debt is dangerous for anyone, but especially for a government that is spending taxpayers’ money like it’s in never ending supply.

We are trading freedom to finance the radical Obama agenda.

Score: -2

Congressional Legislation

Healthcare legislation appears to be on life support and Scott Brown is flying high…a good state of affairs in Washington D.C.

With the Democrats’ super-majority gone in the Senate, the prospect for passing radical, unpopular legislation is looking bleaker and bleaker.  Freedom has survived to live another day.

Culture

Here at Everyday Banter, we love life.  We also love those who work hard and risk public ridicule to protect it.

Pam and Tim Tebow did just that by enduring a full week of unfair attacks because of their airing of a Super Bowl commercial for Focus on the Family.  Their message was simple: life is good and worth living; sacrificing for your children’s life is important.

Kudos to two very inspirational people who put a lot on the line to tell their special story.
